Since there is a limit to the amount of energy that any helmet can absorb, large amounts of energy must be deflected in real-life cases. That’s why Arai has pursued a smooth form and a strong cap body that can easily dodge impacts. Until now, the shield mounting part required a slight step for opening and closing. In order to improve the performance of dodging impacts, we lowered the shield mounting part by 24mm using the proven Snell standard test line as a guide, realizing a smoother form for the temporal part of the helmet.

Lowering the position of the shield system means lowering the shield mounting part to a position where it cannot be opened and closed. The Super Adsis I type has one point as its axis of rotation, while the axis of rotation of VAS exists as a virtual axis on the helmet. Opening and closing of the shield is made possible by a combination of two trajectories: a pin rail trajectory based on a virtual axis and a double pivot function that orbits the shield mounting part. With this “VAS”, it became possible to open and close the shield while lowering the position of the shield system.
